Directed by Colin Johnson
Featuring Rinabeth Apostal, Hayley Lovegren & Brian Quakenbush
Characters:
Feel free to highly contrast the Movements/Gestures/Tempo & Rhythm of the Characters. The use of Rewinds, Pauses, and Repetition encouraged.
Characteristics:
Lover 1 The shy nervous type. Jittery. Like too much coffee. Cutesy.
Lover 2 Calm, cool, relaxed, loving. Walks a slow pace. An extremely patient person. Repair Person An everchanging character. They change like the scenery. Their entrance determines the kind of person they are.
Setting:
A room. There is a door. There is a chair. The rest of the set is suggested through simple mimicked gesture and emotion. The actor will convey the surroundings.
Time:
Spring. Cool weather. Nothing special. Just another day.
At Rise:
A and B sit closely together. They both unpack boxes. C is offstage. C will be coming from the conditions of the outside. (This first scene should play quick, bright, happy. It will corrode into a much darker, colder place as it transitions into the second part.)
A
It’s the end as we know it.
B
It’s not the end it’s the beginning.
A
I hate it when you say that.
B
I’m just trying to be positive.
A
Well don’t. It’s not funny. I’m getting sick of it.
B
Some weather we’re having huh?
C knocks on Door
A
It’s supposed to be the hottest year ever.
*B Crosses to the door. B opens Door C enters and speaks
C
Did somebody call a repairman?
A&B
We did.
C
What seems to be the problem?
A&B
It’s the goddamn heater!
C
I’ll see what I can do.
Suddenly A chooses to look at their phone for a good moment. Eventually the repairman starts to inspect the broken pieces of whatever it is they find to be broken.. Take a few beats with this mundane moment.
A
So?
B
So what?
A
Well… I need help. How are we going to fix this little problem of ours?
B
I’m sorry. I don’t know if I can help right now.
A
You can’t hold a grudge forever.
B
Oh, believe me I can.
A
Listen. I wasn’t expecting this to happen.
B
What’s that supposed to mean?
A
Oh come on!
B
What?
C
Listen. I’m not sure I can help you today.
C Exits.
(Part 2) The scene glitches and replays from the beginning. Robotic repetitive sounds and/or the Weather help the transition. Clothing should accommodate the weather.

They stand a bit further away from each other. B stands trying to keep warm. A is seated trying to keep warm. C is offstage. C will be coming from the conditions of the outside.
A
It’s the end as we know it.
