Interior of two different apartments. The stage is split down the middle and each side is a different apartment. Jaime and Molly are both in bed on each side. The beds are Jaime makes the sound for Molly’s alarm and they MOLLY grabs her phone

MOLLY

I wake up.

I should stand,

but I already have my phone in my hand.

But no.

I’ll put it down.

I think I can do this –

I know I can do this –

I’m gonna do this.

Blooop (Jaime)

What’s that sound?

MOLLY grabs phone and starts scrolling

MOLLY (spoken)

Oh it’s my instagram alert. Awwww, Claudia’s baby is two months old! So cute.

MOLLY continues looking at instagram. Lights up on JAIME as phone alarm goes off (Molly’s voice makes the alarm sound)

JAIME

I am up.

That’s the plan.

Now I must resist this phone in my hand.

Put it down.

But I can’t.

I’ve gotta check this –

Oh there’s a cat pic-

I’ll buy this sweater –

BLOOOOP (molly)

That’s my aunt!

JAIME(spoken)

What could she want this early?

Both sit on bed facing opposite on phones.

CHORUS:

Hours go by-

in this vir-tual land –

even when I want to –

I can’t get this phone out of my hand.

Laundry’s not done,

dishes aren’t clean,

my face isn’t washed

sometimes in this space I want to scream.

MOLLY (spoken)

Ok, I’ll start the laundry

JAIME

and while that’s going I’ll do the dishes

MOLLY

so that I can cook for the week

JAIME

and once that’s in the oven I’ll shower

MOLLY

Probably

JAIME (sniffs armpit)

Definitely.

TOGETHER

Ok, here I go.

Music vamps while both start picking up laundry. Once picked up – MOLLY takes basket and exits. JAIME sits down, exhausted on bed. And stares out the window

JAIME

Ugh, there’s always too much to do. Anyway, I promised myself I would leave the house today. What to do, what to do. Ooh, its been awhile since I hung out with Molly. She’s free on Wednesdays. I’ll text her. NO, I’ll call her.

Goes to pick up phone,

JAIME

Oh, I got an email. I guess I’ll just check this one thing….

JAIME gets lost in phone. MOLLY wanders back into room

MOLLY

Ok, laundry’s in – next up – dishes. I am awesome. You know what? I deserve to check instagram. Five minutes tops.

MOLLY picks up phone, gets lost in the world inside phones. Phone choreography dance number instrumental same as below then:

CHORUS

Hours go by-

in this vir-tual land –

even when I want to –

I can’t get this phone out of my hand.

Laundry’s not done,

dishes aren’t clean,

my face isn’t washed

sometimes in this space I want to scream.

MOLLY throws phone on bed, paces in anxiety

MOLLY (spoken)

Oh god, I did it again. What is wrong with me? I am stronger than you phone! You and me are DONE for the day.

MOLLY puts phone under pillow and stares out window.

JAIME emerges from a 50 yard stare at phone and blanket cocoon

How did? Where am I? What was I even doing? I was going to ….something? Oh god, what was it? I started doing laundry, then I looked out the window, and was going to go outside? I picked up my phone because….. I was going to call Molly! I got you this time PHONE!

Calls her – riiiiiings

MOLLY

Ok, well, it’s ringing so I have to look at it. Right? Right. Oh! It’s Jaime!

MOLLY

Then let’s get out in the day.

JAIME

A little hike?

MOLLY

A coffee date?

JAIME

You still have your bike?

MOLLY (spoken)

I think so.

BOTH

or up near the trees –

We could ride cross the bridge,

or down to 4th st,
