There’s a Light on Yonder Mountain follows the journey of an unlikely group of misfits on a mysterious mission to change the world. This new play, created by four emerging playwrights and a literary director, is inspired by Joseph Campbell’s work on the Hero’s Journey.

At a bar during the closing seconds of a football game, Gretchen, Edgar, and Astor explore multiple realities. Over the course of these iterations, allegiances are formed and broken, the game is won and lost, and the three characters grapple with the notion that even the slightest action can profoundly affect the trajectories of their lives.

In the Meantime culminated an exciting second year of collaboration between aMios and Horse Trade, a self-sustaining theater development group. This was our first full-length partnership.

LongShotz

drawing on the success of both the ongoing Shotz! short play series and the outstanding one-act series the NYCycle, two evenings of one-acts were commissioned to examine first and final looks at New York City, our home and playground.

playing in repertory over three weeks at Under St. Marks in the East Village as a part of our residency with the Horse Trade Theater Group, LongShotz provided an ample tasting of diverse talent and insightful perspectives of NYC.

The NYCycle

over the course of a year (2010-11), aMios commissioned twelve one-act plays as a part of its NYCycle, an ambitious seasonal presentation of new work by some of downtown’s hottest theater artists.

we gave themes to three playwrights who must include those themes in new 30-minute plays about the present day. they had one month to write. we then rehearsed for three weeks, mounted the shows and performed them for three weeks.
